Self Care Tips with our Founder Kirsty

Where have the past few months gone? It’s almost the end summer holiday season once! Time to check in with some self care tips.

‘Schools out’ often means even more work at home. More washing, preparing lunches, amusing the kids, right?

Sometimes we have to ask whether we’re taking care of ourselves? It sure is easier said than done!

I often find life can become overwhelming, running a business and being a dedicated mum and wife can often take its toll.

Sleep is probably my biggest challenge, as I find myself working late hours trying to fit everything in, and I’m sure you’ll all have experienced the effects that lack of sleep can have on the body.

These 5 self-care tips are easy enough to incorporate into your everyday. And in a small way, could nurture both your mental and physical health.

Self Care Tips

1. Make a move

I try to move everyday, whether it’s a morning run or a walk in the fresh air. There are so many benefits both physically and mentally to getting outside and being active. The fresh air and natural light can have a great impact on the body, and with longer days in the summer it’s a great way to unwind.

2. Change your environment

I don’t have an office, and never have! I’ve always struggled with sitting at a desk, and have often felt guilty about this. The traditional convention is to work at desk, however I’ve learnt to understand that I’m much more productive working in different environments. Don’t let others perception of your working style make you feel less productive, understand what works for you and do more of it.

3. Have a family dinner

Having a set meal time where you sit with your family is a great way to connect with your loved ones. Sometimes when life becomes busy we find ourselves rushing and snacking on the go. Making time for a proper home cooked meal can make such a difference to your day.

4. Detox from technology and work

Since we often have our work lives following us everywhere through our phones these days, having strong boundaries around work emails, texts, and calls can really help create more downtime. You don’t always need to be on call, zoning out can provide so many benefits.

5. Take a break!

With a mounting list of things to do, the temptation is to often keep going. Make time to get out of the house with the kids at the weekend (the washing can wait!). Make time in your diary for yourself, whether it’s watching your favourite box set or going for a swim, your body will thank you for it.
